Everything France has to offer…

fromage

It took many months of procrastination…a trip to and good night out in Nantes, coupled with a wave of excellent releases by a bunch of French artists to finally get back into it.

I happen to think there has always been a vibrant music scene in France but there has definitely been a bunch of blog-worthy releases since the beginning of 2016. So, here we go…check out these tunes and please buy at least a couple of these albums

“Happiest Man On Earth” – Broken Back.

Le Breton de l’etape…This song came out last summer but there is absolutely no reason why it cant be the song that extend our summer for a few more weeks. The concept is simple: a 4-minute, super simple & joyful song. He has a full album coming out in November. Frankly I am not sure he will be able to pull out another 10 or so interesting tunes but this EP is a good one so let’s enjoy it.

“La Lune Rousse” – Fakear

There has been an emergence of new electronic music and artists in the last 12 months and Fakear is definitely my favorite .His music picks-up sounds from all sorts of wordly influences, and creatures. His album ‘Animal’ came out this summer and there are some absolutely excellent songs throughout the LP…this is more than likely going to be one of my best one of the year.

“Garden Of Love” – The Liminanas

So apparently this band has been producing LP for years and I didn’t hear about them until one of my most trusted sources recommended it to me. All sorts of psyche, Gainsbourg-ish influence in the album that are well worth a few bucks. And the lyrics on ‘Prisunic’ should be a classic in every playground “-J’tai croisée chez Prisunic, Parmi les tomates atomiques”. Peter Hook’s is playing the bass on this song, probably one of the best thing he’s done in a while. And Jack White is apparently a big fan. How these 2 from Perpignan sounds so cool, went unnoticed for so long and gets such following, is beyond me.

“Unlive “Dream Koala Rework” – Superpoze

2 other young electronic prodigy’s getting together. Superpoze has already a few EP’s under his belt and his ‘Opening’ album is a solid collection of dreamy electronic tunes, all the way through.

“Fire” – Samba De La Muerte

Another old tune but Samba just released their 1st album this spring. This is a great piece from 1 guy, in his bedroom.

Bonus: “Ake” – Blick Bassy

One last one, who is not French per se but from Cameroon…but he lives in Paris. And his new LP was released on what I think is one of the best and most interesting record label around – No Format (www.noformat.net). I found his 3rd album to be a extremely interesting, an excellent mix of world music led by a distinctive voice and some jazz influence. The whole album is a must-buy and this song is a good teaser
